When the time comes to do what’s necessary to complete your duty or to do what’s necessary to accomplish your objectives, the phenomenon of “I don’t feel like it” is not only devoid of relevance, but is an entirely deceptive illusion perpetrated by a hidden thought; an insidious, inhibiting impulse that, once exposed to the heat of unwavering Attention, becomes interrupted, fades away, or is displaced by a new mental state! As procrastination unfolds, the experience can seem as though you are a powerless bystander trying to direct the outcome of events not fully under your control, almost like you are the driver in a mechanically unstable car that is wrecklessly weaving back and forth rather than in a straight line, with you unable to steer yourself in a definite, steady, forward direction. During these times, you have a sense that you should take some form of decisive action, but the momentum of your current condition seems to be carrying you along for the ride in a way that makes you feel impotent to interrupt it in order to change course.

The fact that we are attracted to pleasure tells us that when we’re not in the mood to do a good thing, then we need only alter our thinking about the task so that it seems more APPEALING. It also tells us why what we DO while in a procrastinating mental state is so alluring.

One of the most powerful, procrastination-busting approaches you can do is to challenge the synthetic, imaginary message of discomfort that your brain tries to paint as your reality. Because the pain of the task may exist entirely in your Mind, and because the task itself may actually be enjoyable if you were to simply begin it and dismiss any negative thoughts that creep into your thinking, you should question whether your thoughts toward the task are exaggerated.
